My name is Ryan McIntyre, and I am a member of the Providence College Class of 2021. I am a Finance major enrolled in the Liberal Arts Honors program. I grew up in Westwood Massachusetts, and went to Boston College High School from the 7th grade through the 12th. Over the next six weeks, I will be spending time in the Solomon Islands, through the generosity of the Father Philip Smith, O.P. Fellowship program. The Father Smith Fellowship program allows for Providence College Sophomores and Juniors to spend a year to develop a proposal to study or serve in any Dominican community abroad. I submitted my final proposal in January with the help of Sister Rose Mary, O.P. (Sydney) and my proposal was accepted in February to serve in the Solomon Islands. Before I land in Honiara (the capital of the Solomon Islands) on May 27th, I will be stopping in Sydney in order to learn more about the Solomon Islands from people who have gone before from the Santa Sabina school. Once in Honiara, I will be living and working with a Dominican Friar, Roman Catholic Archbishop, and Providence College Alum, Christopher Cardone, O.P. ’80 near Holy Cross Cathedral, and I will be teaching at the Epalle school until my return flight on July 2nd.

I would also like to direct your attention to a few others who will be travelling abroad through the generosity of the Father Smith Fellowship program. There were 10 Smith Fellowship recipients this year, travelling to sites such as Jerusalem, Tucuman, Sydney, and San Jose. The link to their blogs, as well as a full description of the Fellowship program, can be found by following this link: https://mission-ministry.providence.edu/smith-fellow/
If you enjoy my blog, I encourage you to peep those other blogs as well. I have known, or gotten to know, all of the Smith Fellows over the course of my time and preparation at PC, and I can say wholeheartedly that their blogs will be quite intriguing, and their reflections profound. Keep praying, friends!!
